Why do I need to change my CPAP water chamber?Updated 2 months ago
Your CPAP water chamber plays a key role in your therapy by providing humidification, which helps prevent dryness and irritation in your nose, mouth, and throat. Over time, however, the water chamber can wear out or become unhygienic, even with regular cleaning.
🧼 Reasons to Replace Your Water Chamber
1. Mineral Buildup
Even if you use distilled water, mineral deposits can form over time and affect performance. Tap water accelerates this buildup and may damage the chamber faster.
2. Cracks or Leaks
Repeated heating and cooling cycles can cause cracks, warping, or leaking, which may reduce humidity output or damage your machine.
3. Mold or Bacteria Growth
Even with regular cleaning, moisture creates an environment where bacteria, mold, or mildew can grow—especially in hard-to-reach areas.
4. Worn Seals
The silicone or rubber seals that keep your water chamber airtight may degrade over time, leading to air leaks or reduced humidification efficiency.
🔄 How often should I replace it?
We recommend replacing your water chamber every 6 months, or sooner if you notice any of the following:
Discoloration or residue you can't remove
Cracks or clouding in the plastic
Persistent odor, even after cleaning
Tips for Extending Its Life:
Use distilled water only
Empty it daily and let it air dry
Clean it weekly with mild soap and warm water (avoid harsh chemicals or dishwashers unless it's marked dishwasher-safe)
